ESD

Increased security for fluid control systems

In the process, some control valves need to be equipped with Emergency Shutdown Device (ESD) in order to protect the pipeline and equipment from damage.

ESD is a remote emergency control signal with priority over all other commands. Depending on the valve operation, ESD can be configured as follows:

  • Emergency Open
  • Emergency Close
  • Emergency Stay Put

Moreover, in order to increase the availability of the actuator in extreme conditions, ESD can be set to ignore a torque or a motor thermal overload condition.

For top level security requirements, the ESD commands can be SIL (level 2 or 3) certified. Please consult SIL design focus.

In addition, when the actuator is equipped with a Fieldbus interface, the ESD command is available on both fieldbus and wired interfaces.

ESD is available in BERNARD CONTROLS INTEGRATED & INTELLI+® CONTROLS.
